February 2016 Logistics Market Snapshot
The February edition of the Logistics Market Snapshot, collated by the Georgia Center of Innovation for Logistics, is now available online. Looking at more than 300 sources of information from external resources including NASDAQ, the US Department of Transportation and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Market Snapshot provides insight into rail, trucking, air and ocean freight, warehouse and distribution, multimodal and US markets trends.
Below are a few interesting highlights from the February edition:
- The consumer price index for all urban consumers was unchanged in January on a seasonally adjusted basis from the previous month. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 1.4% before seasonal adjustment. The producer price index for final demand increased 0.1% in January from the previous month. Prices for final demand goods decreased 0.7% from the previous month. (Source: US Bureau of Labor Statistics)
- Retail and food service sales increased in January to $449.9 billion, up 0.2% from the previous month, and up 3.4% above January 2015. Non-store retailer sales were up 8.7% from last year. (Source: US Census)
- E-Commerce revenue was up 5% in December 2015 compared to December 2014. Mobile shopping (phones and tablets) accounted for 30% of online shopping, up from 25% in December 2014. (Source: Custora ECommerce Pulse)
