May 2016 Logistics Market Snapshot
The May edition of the Logistics Market Snapshot, collated by the Georgia Center of Innovation for Logistics, is now available online. Looking at more than 300 sources of information from external resources including NASDAQ, the US Department of Transportation and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Market Snapshot provides insight into rail, trucking, air and ocean freight, warehouse and distribution, multimodal and US markets trends.
Below are a few interesting highlights from the May edition:
- Retail and food service sales increased in April to $453.4 billion, up 1.3% from the previous month, and up 3.0% from April 2015. Non-store retailer sales were up 10.2% from last year. (Source: US Census)
- E-Commerce revenue was up 10% in March compared to March 2015. Mobile shopping (phones and tablets) accounted for 29% of online shopping, up from 26% in March 2015. (Source: Custora E-Commerce Pulse)
- The consumer price index for all urban consumers increased 0.4% in April on a seasonally adjusted basis from the previous month. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 1.1% before seasonal adjustment. The producer price index for final demand increased 0.2% in April from the previous month.
