In the recent Market Guide for Unified Commerce Platforms Anchored by Point of Sales (POS) for Tier 1 and Tier 2 Retailers, Gartner states, “retailers must-have solutions to support a fluid customer journey that traverses both online and offline channels and includes multiple touchpoints.” In other words, unified commerce. Execution of unified commerce is one of the most important capabilities in retail today.

The report discusses many emerging trends in the retail sector, including the fact that "30% of online orders are returned" - many to stores. Therefore, a retailer must receive those returns and get that inventory back into the sales cycle, especially if those products are not included in that store's planned assortment.
A POS unified commerce platform can provide unobstructed inventory visibility and facilitate access to those products regardless of the location. Additionally, recent events have made the requirement for open architecture and guaranteed robust security, privacy, disaster recovery, and resilience in a POS a top priority.
